Album Review
Freddie Hubbard's "The Artist Selects" features tracks the iconic jazz trumpeter culled himself from the best of his '60s output for Blue Note. This superb collection not only includes cuts off Hubbard's solo outings, but also tracks the iconic horn man recorded while with drummer Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Included are such landmark tracks as "Up Jumped Spring", "Breaking Point" and "Birdlike" as well as lesser known songs like "The Core". Also featured are liner notes written by Hubbard. While there are similar single-disc collections of this material, the personal aspect of the collection makes it a noteworthy additon to Hubbard's various compiled offerings. ~ Matt Collar, All Music Guide
