Album Review
Superstar gangsta the Game makes his big movie debut and you would think he'd be all over the soundtrack. Instead, he's absent, and "Waist Deep" cobbles together an unrelated collection of street tracks -- some exclusive, some not -- along with the required slick single and big ballad. Black Buddafly's hooky and lazy-flowing "Bad Girl" fills the single requirement nicely while Lee Carr's memorable "Act Like That" is the better than expected ballad. Offering necessary new track number three, Def Jam artist Sam Scarfo makes his debut here with the promising "Who Want It" featuring Buju Banton. Lil Eazy-E's much anticipated team-up with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is a less satisfying debut although it's a serviceable easy roller. Yung Joc's "Do Yah Bad," Ghostface's "Be Easy" with Trife, and Ice Cube's "Child Support" are excellent choices for previously released cuts, but unfortunately all the filler and recycled whatnot fails to hang together in any meaningful way.
