Album Review
Each of the singles compiled on "Number 1's: Love Songs" topped the Billboard pop chart at some point from 1965 through 1994. That's a broad range of years for any compilation, so there should be some era-to-era speed bumps if you attempt to listen to the disc all the way through. To Universal's credit, there are no such bumps, thanks to a well though-out sequencing job: Peaches & Herb reach Nelson through Lionel Richie, Captain & Tennille, Player, and Extreme. There's a pronounced adult contemporary bent to the selections, but we're dealing with love songs, after all, so it shouldn't be terribly surprising. The few upbeat songs among all the ballads include Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" and Yvonne Elliman's "If I Can'T Have You." ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
