Album Review
Lou Rawls' soulful voice and romantic style are well featured on this sampler CD, which draws its music from three of his Blue Note albums from 1989-92. The bluesy ballads find Rawls in fine form, and there are brief contributions from tenors Stanley Turrentine, David "Fathead" Newman and Joe Lovano, altoist Hank Crawford, and (during a memorable "At Last") fellow singer Dianne Reeves. Rawls' true fans will want the complete CDs, but this is an okay sampler of his later work. Other highlights include "I Wonder Where Our Love Has Gone," "Good Morning Blues," "This Bitter Earth" and "Oh What a Nite." ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
