Album Review
A 15-track promotional sampler illustrating the voluminous depth of MCA's multi-label blues master holdings. Without even trying hard, they've assembled top-flight performances from Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Rogers, Bo Diddley, Little Milton, Etta James, Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf (all Chess artists), Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry (ABC-Bluesway), B.B. King (ABC and later MCA), Junior Parker (Duke), Bobby Bland (Duke and later MCA) and Slim Harpo (Excello). A nice cross-section and some left-field selections (Muddy Waters' "You Need Love," the song that became "Whole Lotta Love" for Led Zeppelin; Bo Diddley's "I Can Tell," the original flip side of "You Can't Judge a Book By Its Cover") makes this a promo item well worth hunting down. ~ Cub Koda, All Music Guide
