Album Review
Mel Tormé's inevitable Latin LP is a trip south of the border with orchestra maestro Billy May in the passenger seat. Tormé does a set of bright, bouncy crossover standards like "Frenesi" and "Malagueña," plus a few showtunes with Latin themes such as "South Of The Border," "Cuban Love Song," "The Rhumba Jumps," and "Niña." Billy May's Orchestra is surprisingly restrained, and he backs Tormé well, especially on the ballads "Baia" and "Vaya Con Dios." [After it spent a long while out of print, Verve made up for lost time by reissuing the album on CD in a special faux-LP packaging.] ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
