Album Review
MCA Nashville's "Christmas Cookies" collection rounds up a number of late-'90s/early-2000s recordings by some of the label's artists performing Christmas favorites. Some of the featured artists include George Strait ("Christmas Cookies"), George Jones ("Silent Night"), the Mavericks ("Santa Claus Is Back In Town"), Mark Chesnutt ("Light Of The World"), and a duet between Trisha Yearwood and Vince Gill ("An Angel Gets Its Wings"). As a bonus highlight, MCA also raids its archive for three longtime Christmas classics: Bobby Helms' "Jingle Bell Rock," Burl Ives' "A Holly Jolly Christmas," and Ives' "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" -- these are the original, classic versions everyone's come to know. And while it's debatable what the true highlight of "Christmas Cookies" is -- the country songs or the archive recordings -- there's no debating the quality of this collection. It's one of the better country Christmas collections out there. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
