Album Review
He pulls from a slightly different source book, but the result is mostly the same -- a collection of new settings for old-time spirituals that once again demonstrate the singer's creative prowess. Millard again mixes genres, tempos, and instruments in a way that makes a cohesive whole. This second time around is another impressive attempt to vary 2005's "Hymned No. 1", a volume of songs sung by his grandmother, "Hymned Again" is comprised of songs Millard grew up singing in church. That means in general the source material is more familiar to today's churchgoer -- from the common "I Saw The Light" to "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." It's hard to pick favorites on the album, but the placid duet "Jesus Cares For Me" featuring Vince Gill is one of the album's treats. ~ Jared Johnson, Rovi
