Album Review
"In the Hands of God" is the swan song of vocalist Peter Furler, the last album he recorded with Newsboys before leaving the band. Although there are lingering elements of their dancey early work -- especially on the song appropriately titled "Dance" -- this album continues Newsboys' progression toward big, sweeping anthemic rock, one where the strings, keyboards, guitars, and vocals all build up into a wall of sound reminiscent of Coldplay or U2. Unlike on their previous album, "Go", there is no attempt to position "In the Hands of God" as a secular crossover, something that the title makes plain. This is a devoted, worshipful CCM album, one whose themes touch back to the group's earliest albums, but musically it's transitional, seeing Newsboys move further into rock as they're getting ready to leave Furler behind. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
