Without Ira's lyrics, George Gershwin's music takes on new lustre in these orchestral versions performed by the Boston Pops, Charles Dutoit and others.

Album Review

As the title suggests, Decca's "Gershwin Without Words" features instrumental performances of some of Gershwin's most popular songs. The album ranges from classical pop interpretations, like the Boston Pops Orchestra's "Selections From Girl Crazy" and "Strike Up The Band," to Stanley Black's lounge-inspired renditions of "Love Is Here To Stay" and "A Foggy Day." The bulk of the album is made up of Frederick Fennell's restrained instrumental pop performances, of which "The Man I Love" and "I Got Rhythm" are the highlights. "Gershwin Without Words" is a very pleasant, traditional-sounding collection that should appeal to anyone looking for sedate versions of Gershwin's work. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
