A blind soul singer whose numerous hits of the late '60s and early '70s epitomized the Muscle Shoals rhythm & blues sound, Carter hit the big time with his Atlantic single "Patches" (1970) and won a lasting place in the annals of Southern soul with others like "Slip Away" and "Too Weak To Fight." In 1977, Carter broke out of a dry spell with the Venture album "Let's Burn", featuring a track called "Workin' (On A Love Building)," which set the theme for much of what was to follow: robust, lascivious lovemaking boasts. ...
